Download BBC Radio Programs With Radio Downloader

If you cannot listen to the various BBC Radio channels directly, you may consider downloading your favorite shows to your computer to listen to them at a later time. Maybe you are on holiday and do not want to miss a show, or you are living in a country that has limited or no access to BBC Radio shows.

Radio Downloader offers a solution. The free program comes with two main features right now: It can be used to download BBC Radio shows, and it can also be used to download Podcasts. When you first start the program, you see both options displayed as icons in the program interface.

A click on BBC displays a genre, formats and A to Z listing in the interface. If you know the show’s name, you may want to use the A to Z listing to find it. If you are not sure or want to explore the various options, you can either click on a genre, like drama, children’s or music, or a format, like readings, reality or magazines & reviews.

A list of shows is displayed on the next page, and if you have selected a genre, sub-genres may be listed on the page as well. You can furthermore filter results at the top. This allows you to switch from the current show filter to a listing that is only highlighting shows that are available on the BBC iPlayer, or all shows.

All available shows are listed on the next page. You can now select a show and click on the download button in the toolbar to download it to your computer. Here it is also possible to subscribe to a show, which can be useful if you do not want to miss a single show.

You may want to click on Options > Provider Options > BBC Radio Provider Options first to configure the audio download rules. The program will convert AAC radio shows to mp3 by default, which you can change in the program options.

The podcast download works by adding the RSS feed of the Podcast to the program. There is no directory of podcasts included in the program, which makes it less appealing.

The program itself feels a bit clunky at times, for instance when you realize that going back or forward take their time even if the page had been loaded previously.

The downloading of BBC Radio programs does not seem to work for all users. A friend of mine had no issues whatsoever using the program, while I could not download a single show to my computer. The developer states on a help page that this is usually caused by a firewall, or by the router.

Radio Developer, if it is working properly, is a useful program for users who like to download BBC Radio shows to their PCs.

4Chan.org Image Downloader

If you are a regular on the 4chan.org website you probably have discovered lots of great images and photos on there. 4chan is notorious for its adult section where there are almost no rules as to what can be posted, and what cannot be. But the site has more to offer than that, a large Japanese culture section for instance with anime and related boards, creative boards and interest based boards. The majority of boards on 4Chan are not adult related.

One of the issues that you may come upon on the site is that it is kinda hard to keep track of a particular thread you are interested in. You can keep the thread open in your browser and refresh it manually, or bookmark it to open it at a later time. There is however no option to download all images posted in a thread on the site, unless you happen to have the right third party tools at your disposal.

4Chan Image Downloader is such a program. The software, available for the Windows operating system, lets you download all images from a 4Chan thread and monitor that thread for new images after all of the images have been downloaded to the computer.

You need to select a board and thread number manually, or use the get from clipboard option after you have copied a 4Chan thread url to the Clipboard of your computer. The only other options that you have are the selection of the download folder on your local system, and whether you want to monitor that thread for new images or not. If you do, you can configure the monitoring interval as well.

The program displays all images as thumbnails in the interface and begins the download automatically afterwards. If you have selected to monitor the thread, you cannot use the program for anything else. There is no option to monitor multiple threads at the same time, or continue downloading from other threads while you monitor one.

VSO Downloader, Your One Stop Internet Video Downloader

Usually when you want to download a video from a popular site such as YouTube, Gametrailers, Facebook or Twitter, you need to put at least some effort into it. You could for instance install a browser extension like Download Helper for the Firefox web browser or the desktop application Video Cache View which displays cached copies of videos that are already stored on your desktop PC.

VSO Downloader, designed to download videos effortlessly from the Internet, offers another opportunity. The program taps right into the network stream on your computer, which makes it completely independent of the browser or program that you are using to watch the videos online. Instead of having to manually select videos for download, it simply downloads all videos that you are watching on your PC.

A quick test confirmed the program to be working fine when watching videos in Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and the Opera web browser. You need to keep in mind that what you see is what they download. If you are viewing a HD video then that is what is being downloaded.

A notification is displayed whenever a video is detected, You can open the program’s interface at any time to turn off the monitoring or notifications. Here you can also manage downloaded videos and change configuration settings.

A double-click on any downloaded video opens it in the system’s default media player for that file type. Videos can be renamed, deleted, and downloads can be restarted in case something went wrong during the initial download.

Downloads can be paused and resumed as well, which can be useful if you have a large video download queue but need the bandwidth somewhere else.

VSO Downloader can be configured in its interface to convert videos directly to medium or low quality mp3 files. There is a high mp3 conversion option available, but this one is limited to the commercial version of the software. Direct conversions can be handy if you watch a lot of music videos on sites like YouTube and want lots of that music in mp3 format on your hard drive.

Whats more? The program ships with an ad blocker that blocks the downloading of many video advertisements that are displayed before videos. The settings feature a filter, network adapter and ports menu that allows you to make modifications to the monitoring. You could for instance remove video formats so that they are not automatically downloaded, or switch to another network adapter which some users may need to do if they have multiple adapters installed.

There does not seem to be a hotkey for turning the automatic downloading on and off. This means that you will have to open the software interface and click on the monitoring button whenever you want to enable or disable it.

VSO Downloader is a useful video downloader for the Windows operating system. Multi-browser and video sites, automatic downloading, and conversions to mp3 are all features that make the downloading quite comfortable.
