YouTube Search History Now With Disable Option

The popular video hosting site YouTube up until now kept a log of all of the videos that you watched on the site while logged in to your YouTube or Google account. YouTube knows about all the videos that you watched on the site while logged in to the account. The feature’s name could cause some confusion on its own, as it has little to do with searches on the site. Thus, viewing history would be more appropriate.

While it was possible to remove individual video or the complete list of all videos that you watched on YouTube, up until now it was not possible to disable the feature to have the site not record any activities in the first place.

This was a big issue for privacy conscious users who did not want their video history to be recorded at all. It could also be problematic on multi-user PCs that shared a single Google account, or where users sometimes forgot to log out of theirs.

Ghacks reader Odio just notified me that YouTube – finally – had added an option to disable the search history feature on the site. Google calls it pausing, but it effectively stops to record which videos you viewed on the site.

To disable My Search History, go to this settings page on YouTube. Please note that you need to be logged in for this to work properly. The page lists all the videos that you watched on the site in the past.

Locate the pause search history button at the top and click on it to disable the logging of videos that you watch on YouTube.

The button switches to Resume search history automatically which you can activate to have the viewing history recorded again. You may also want to click on the Clear all search history button to remove your existing search history records from the site.

I suggest you test the new feature by loading a video on the site, and then reloading the search history page to make sure nothing gets recorded anymore.

Chrome Comment Save Keeps A History Of All Your Web Comments

Keeping track of all the comments that you leave on the Internet can be quite the daunting task. While some plugins, like Disqus, allow you to keep track of comments that you left on sites that use the commenting plugin, there is nothing available that is working on all sites out there.

That leaves you with third party tools or a really good memory. Comment Save for Chrome is one of those third party tools that keeps track of all comments that you leave on the Internet. It is like your own personal commenting history.

The extension keeps track of all your comments directly after installation. There is no need for configuration, it works right out of the box. Comments are saved in realtime, which means that you can use it for restoration purposes as well. That’s useful if the comment won’t post for whatever reason, for instance if the browser hangs or crashes before you were able to post it, or if you have accidentally opened another link in that tab.

Comment Save adds an icon to Chrome’s address bar that displays the last comment that you wrote.

comment save

Here you can copy the last comment made to the clipboard, click through to the page you left the comment, or open the history of all your recent comments.

The Chrome extension keeps track of comments indefinitely. You can change that by enabling the timed deletion option which configures the add-on to delete comments automatically once they have past a select timeframe.

The very same page lists all the comments that have not been deleted yet. You see the page title, the actual comment and the date and time it was posted by you. A click on the page title opens the page in the same browser tab.

save comments

You can furthermore delete comments selectively here, and configure filters to prevent the comments from being recorded on select websites.

Comment Save should work on most Internet sites that allow you to post comments. Chrome users can download the extension from the official Chrome Web Store.

Close’n Forget Removes Active Sites From Firefox’s History

You sometimes may want to erase traces of web pages that you have visited in the past. This is especially useful on multi-user systems where every user is sharing the same account and profile, but also for privacy conscious users who want to protect their privacy from third parties (for instance during US border controls or theft).

While it is possible to use programs like CCleaner for that, its all or nothing approach may suite everyone’s needs. Another possibility would be the private browsing mode, but that too has disadvantages like having to switch between normal and private browsing mode whenever necessary.

The free Firefox add-on Close’n forget adds a third possibility to the browser. The extension by default removes all cookies of the active tab. This alone may be useful in some situations, but it is not removing all traces of the website from the browser.

Users should pay a visit to the extension’s options where they can improve the functionality. Here they can enable the removal of the current site and the removal of all pages viewed in a tab from the web browser’s history. It is in addition possible to remove cookies from all subdomains of the root domain as well.

close and forget firefox

When you run the command then, the add-on will not only remove cookies but also the browsing history from the browser.

Firefox users have three options to run the cleanup. They can right-click on the page and select the close and erase cookies for the current site option from the context menu, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl-w to do the same.

It is alternatively possible to add one or two add-on buttons to a Firefox toolbar. This is done by clicking on Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout, and dragging and dropping the buttons to a browser toolbar. The first button clears the cookies and browsing history of the active tab, the second does that for all tabs open in the current window.

The tab will be closed automatically, and all traces will be removed from the cookies storage and browser history.

The developer notes that the extension sometimes cannot clear the browsing history completely. This is the reason why the feature is disabled by default. You can verify that everything has been cleared by visiting the history page of the browser.

Firefox users who are interested in the extension can download and install it from the Mozilla Firefox Add-ons repository.

Unified Browser and Windows History Viewer

Keeping track of all your history items can be quite the feat if you are using more than one browser. Privacy conscious users usually delete the information regularly, while the majority of users is likely unaware what their web browser and operating system can reveal about them.

History Viewer is a free program for the Windows operating system that reveals what the three browsers Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer, and the Windows operating system, have recorded.

When you first start the program you will notice that entries are divided into four groups in the left side bar. The main area is empty until you click on one of the entries in the sidebar.

history viewer

Lets take a closer look at each group and the history information it offers:

Internet Explorer: Displays the url history, text that has been entered into the browser’s address bar, web cookies as well as the contents of the index.dat file.Firefox: Lists the url, input and form history, as well as cookies and downloads.Google Chrome: Displays the url history, top visited sites, keyword searches, cookies and downloads.Microsoft Windows: All recent documents that have been opened, the search, run, open and save, and list visited history, the usb storage device history, first folder information and typed paths.

The listings can reveal plenty of information, for instance which websites have been visited, what the user has been searching for on the Internet, which devices have been plugged into the computer in the past and which files have been downloaded to the local computer.

The program can create a report of its findings which is saved as a plain HTML file on the system. There are no options to delete individual entries or all entries. For that, I suggest to run a program like the free CCleaner which can take care of most of the entries that you see. Keep History Viewer open, run CCleaner and check back in the program if the listings have been removed. You do need to close all supported web browsers if they are running on the system.

History Viewer is compatible with all versions of the Microsoft operating system starting with Windows 98. (via Instant Fundas)

History of Bristol Printing

The modernisation of the Bristol printing industry is often traced during the last decades of the 19th century. Printing presses responded the rapid growth of the book and periodical market. While many printers appreciated the new techniques, there have been some who carried on with the traditional methods.

One of them was Edward Everard, founding member of the Bristol Mater Printer's and Allied Trades' Association. Everard saw himself as continuing the traditions of master printers like Johannes Gutenberg and Aldus Manutius.

His company prospered through his connections with the business and commercial elite. He brought state-of-the-art printing works to Bristol. His headquarters, which was located at 38 Broad Street, was an embodiment of his style. The Art Nouveau fa?ade of the building became a landmark in the city centre. His artistic taste to reconcile old craftsmanship with the requirements of contemporary commerce was evident.

Printing technologies keep on evolving in the modern era. As some businesses fail and industries merge, printing companies may either accommodate new developments or face forthcoming closure.

Below are great tips that may help companies adjust effectively to the changing world of Bristol printing industry.

First, discover how to execute quickly. With the quick development of technologies, more and more consumers search for firms that could deliver fast.

Second is to plan. Many startups fail because they do not make concrete plans such as the number of employees, the right type of equipment and how much work they are able to manage. Some printing companies are unsuccessful mainly because they get more projects than they could actually finish. Late project deliveries result in losing important business.

Another step is employing the best people for the business. You do not need to have wrong people dealing with important projects for your enterprise. That leads to the fourth step and that is having proper supervision of company processes. Find a person with organisation and people skills to take care of your everyday operations.

Running a Bristol printing business also needs dedicated leaders that would help their personnel attain professional growth. This is very important especially if the company wants to expand. Getting trusted and skilled people to manage new businesses will be very important.

Bristolians love the thought that each photograph tells a story. Many were awed with stories of love, war or adventure shown on a canvas, buildings as well as banners. This significant interest brought the Bristol printing industry to where it is now - a combination of traditions and modern day printing techniques.

The modernisation of the Bristol printing industry is usually traced during the last decades of the 19th century. Printing presses replied to the rapid growth of the book and periodical market.

Generally, effective organisations know two things: that what they already know will almost certainly change, and that there are many more they have to learn.

While old methods can still work they might not meet the changing demands of the clients. Constantly knowing about new printing techniques and styles will give businesses a longer lease on life.
