System Ninja 2.3.2 Released With Blacklist Support

System Ninja is a temporary file cleaner like CCleaner or Bleachbit. The program scans a system for junk files, temporary files and other unwanted files, to free up disk space. System Ninja is available as a portable version and installer, which both offer the same functionality.

When you first start the program you are presented with three tabs at the top that lead to the program’s core functionality. The Junk Scanner scans select hard drives for temporary files. It does not offer as many third party cleaning options as CCleaner or Bleachbit, but is pretty solid when it comes to cleaning browser and operating system traces and temp files.

The two remaining tab link to a startup and process manager that can be used to remove programs from the system, and kill running processes, and a PC analysis section that lists hardware information. The startup and process manager are basic, and usually not needed as Windows tools can handle the same job just fine.

System Ninja has been updated to version 2.3.2 today. Existing users can check for updates under Options > Settings > Check Now. The program should recognize the new version and offer to update to it automatically. New users can download the latest version from the developer website over at Singular Labs.

The new version introduces new features to the program that include an option to ignore specific programs which basically protects its data from being cleaned by the application. The new System Ninja version ships with Polish, Russian and Swedish interface languages, improved Windows 8 compatibility and an option to include beta versions in the update checks.

The software is not as feature rich as CCleaner. There is for instance no option to add custom folders or locations to the cleanup. Users who are just looking for a temporary file cleaner on the other hand find both programs to be more than capable for that task.

Runscanner can best be compared to the popular HiJackThis system analyzer, even though it has more to offer than its popular counterpart. Our first Runscanner review dates back to 2007, and a recent program update to version 2.0.0.60 was all we needed to take a second look at the program.

The first thing that you need to do after start up is to click on the Scan computer button to run the initial scan. This takes less than a minute to complete and fills the menus with information. Once done you can start the analysis of your computer, or save the fun file to your computer to analyze it later, or send it to an expert to have a look at it. The third possibility is to create an online malware analysis report by submitting the report to the Runscanner website. The report will be published on the web, so that you can share the url with someone else. Runscanner furthermore will match any of the files and information with its database to mark unsafe items right in the report. The report will not contain identifiable information.

Items are listed in five tabs in the Extra Stuff category:

All Autostart items: A comprehensive listing of autostart files. Each file ist listed with its name or description, company, and system path. You can right-click an item to bring up a context menu with options to search the file on Google, System Lookup, Runscanner or File Advisor. Additional options include uploading it to Virustotal for online analysis, to open the file’s location on the hard drive or to open the file properties. You can furthermore mark items with space so that they can be deleted or analyzed in another menu later on.Process Killer: Lists all running processes with process ID, program name, path, domain and username, description, version and company. You can kill processes directly or on next boot, submit the file for analysis to Virustotal, look it up on Google, or run kill and delete or rename commands.Installed Software: All installed software on the system. No options whatsoever are offered here.Hosts File editor: Displays the contents of the Hosts file, with options to add or remove entries directly from within.History / Backups: Displays all actions that have been previously carried out by the program, with options to reverse them again.

Malware Hunting is the second big group that links to the three tabs unrated items, item fixer and loaded modules. Item fixer displays all the files and items that you have marked previously. It is here that you can delete those items. Loaded modules on the other hand displays all modules that are currently loaded by the operating system. Options to upload individual modules to Virustotal, or to search on various sites for additional information are provided.

Runscanner is a handy program for 32-bit and 64-bit editions of the windows operating system. Its portable nature makes it an ideal program for a tools collection that you use to analyze, troubleshoot and repair PC issues with.

The only difference between both systems is that eBay will transfer the auction money in full to the item seller. Sellers will be charged with fees after the end of the transaction. Amazon on the other hand deducts fees directly from the sales of items.

The system works like an escrow system.

The buyer transfers the money for the item and the item’s shipping costs to eBay.eBay notifies the seller of the receipt of payment.The seller sends the item to the buyereBay transfers the money to the seller’s PayPal or bank account. The time of payment depends on a number of factors including the status of the account and the history.

Five different money transfer options will be supported by eBay on launch: Bank Transfer, Credit Card, Direct Debit, PayPal or Skrill (formerly Moneybookers).

The new payment processing system aims to strengthen the online transaction safety on the marketplace. Since customers will be paying eBay directly, it is less likely that they will get scammed by shady sellers on the site. Customers can get a refund if the item differs from the items they bought on the site, or if they do not receive the items at all. This money back guarantee covers all payment options, and not just PayPal. The inclusion of Skrill comes as a surprise, as it is a direct PayPal competitor.

About 500,000 eBay sellers have tested the new system on the German eBay marketplace. It is not clear yet if eBay plans to change the process on its other marketplaces as well.

System Explorer, A Lightweight Task Manager Alternative

When we first reviewed System Explorer back in 2007, we came to the conclusion that it was a great Task Manager, Process Explorer and Autoruns hybrid. The developers of System Explorer have released version 3.8.0 yesterday, and I would like to use this release to publish an updated review here on Ghacks.

System Explorer is offered as a portable version and installer. The latest version brought full support for 64-bit operating systems, making the software compatible with all versions of Windows from Windows XP on.

When you first start System Explorer you get the option to run a security scan on the system. This optional scan checks all running processes against an online database. Results are then displayed in the Processes tab next to each process.

The program itself divides information into tabs at the top. The four tabs Tasks, Processes, Performance and History are displayed by default, with options to add new tabs with a click on the tab-bar’s plus icon. Here you can enable a good dozen additional services, from auto start entries to installed software, all open connections or installed system drivers.

The process manager displays all running processes in tree form by default so that you see dependencies right there. Each process is listed with its name, cpu and memory utilization, security status, process id and start up parameters if available. You can configure System Explorer to replace the default Windows task manager. The program is then opened when you use the Ctrl-Alt-Esc hotkey to bring up the task manager.
