How To Access Grooveshark If It Is Blocked In Your Country

Grooveshark recently started to block German users from accessing the service citing unreasonable costs of operations in the country as the sole reason for the move. German users who try to access the Grooveshark website see an announcement that the service is no longer available to them.

There may be other countries or networks where Grooveshark is not accessible anymore. It feels only natural that some users try to access the site even though it is blocked in their country or organization. Some may even have paid for a premium account and do not want to be left standing in the rain now.

Grooveshark Unlocker is a Firefox add-on that uses an ingenious method of bypassing access restrictions. Grooveshark checks the user’s IP address during the initial connection and either displays the blocked service announcement page or the normal Grooveshark website. The add-on enables a web proxy for that time, and disables the proxy again after the connection has been established and the restrictions have been bypassed.

The developer notes that users of the add-on may need to refresh the page several times before the protection is bypassed. This was not necessary during tests, each connection attempt worked right of the bat.

This method ensures that users get the maximum out of their connection, as the proxy is disabled after the connection has been established. So no slow proxy that is not fast enough to buffer the music stream.

Grooveshark Unlocker ships with a single proxy that may be banned by Grooveshark or discontinued. You can open the extension’s settings to change the web proxy to another one. A click on Find a proxy in the settings opens a new page that allows you to display a list of working proxy servers.

Grooveshark users who are blocked from accessing the service directly may want to try out the Firefox add-on so that they can access the service again. Interested users can download Grooveshark Unlocker from the official Mozilla Add-ons repository.

Monitor Network Traffic With York

York at its core looks like yet another networking monitor that is using the WinPcap packet capture library. If you look closer though, you will notice that it makes some things more comfortable than other programs of its kind. Alternatives include the Open Source application Open Monitor, NetWorx or NirSofts’ Network Traffic View.

The program installs WinPcap during the setup process so that you can start using the program right away without having to worry about dependencies. When you first start York you will notice that it starts capturing packets right away. Unlike other programs that display everything in a single window, York divides information into multiple tabs.

Data is displayed in realtime, and removed from the listing again after a certain period of time. This basically means that you will always see the latest data right away without having to scroll around.

York divides traffic into five tabs:

Packets: Displays information about all packets, including the time, source and destination address, port and total packet size.Files: Keeps track of files that are downloaded to the computer.Passwords: Monitors passwords, usually in the form of cookies, that are written.Web Sessions: Lists all open web sessionsPictures: Displays image thumbnails of pictures that have been accessed during capturing.

Data is not logged into files by default. You can however open the program settings to select log files on your system that you want the data to be recorded into. The logging options are quite extensive, with options to log passwords, files and web sessions, and packets independently.

It is furthermore possible to switch the network adapter, enable sound notifications for events, or hidden mode which hides the program icon in the system tray. Advanced options include saving packets into a pcap trace file (for later analysis) or enabling a TCPdump filter to capture only specific packets.

The monitoring can be stopped and resumed at any time using the toolbar buttons in the main program window. The same options are also available on a right-click on the system tray icon.

York is compatible with all recent 32-bit and 64-bit editions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. It can be downloaded from the developer website.

How To Disable Restart Your Computer To Finish Installing Important Updates Prompt

We have all been there and seen it. Whenever updates are installed in Windows that require a reboot, you are prompted in regular intervals to do so. These messages appear shortly after installing the updates, and then regularly until you do so. The Restart Your Computer To Finish Installing Important Updates prompt offers to postpone the update for 10 minutes, 1 hour or 4 hours. The prompt is then displayed again if the computer has not been rebooted in the meantime.

Many Windows users dislike the nagging prompt, especially if they are currently running tasks that would be interrupted by a reboot. This includes video rendering, an important download or upload, or a document that needs to be finished in the next hour or so.

While you could select 4 hours from the menu to see the reboot prompt after 4 hours, you may still like to disable the display of the update prompt for a longer period of time. This can be useful if you are currently in a day long presentation that requires the computer.

There are two options to deal with the issue. You could first stop the Windows Update service for the current session. This basically blocks the prompt and any attempt to install new updates until the computer is rebooted.

The following steps are needed for this:

Open up an elevated command prompt window. You can do that by clicking on the Start button of the operating system, entering cmd in the search form and using the shortcut Ctrl-Shift-Enter to open it with administrative privileges. A user account control prompt may be displayed.Run the command net stop “windows update” to stop the Windows Update service for the current session.

You can restart the service with the command net start “windows update”. The service will also be started normally on the next start of the system.

The second option lets you disable the auto reboot option when users are logged on. This requires some Registry hacking and is only suggested for advanced users. You may also want to backup the Registry first before you make those changes.

Use Windows-r to bring up the run box. Enter regedit and hit enter to open the Windows Registry Editor.Navigate to the following Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto UpdateLocate the ForcedReboot key there and change its value from whatever it is set to to 0.

Please note that this works only under Vista, Windows 7 and newer operating systems.

The third and final option is the Local Group Policy Editor which is only available in some versions of the Windows operating system. Go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update and locate the following two parameters:

No auto-restart for scheduled Automatic Updates installationsRe-prompt for restart with scheduled installations

Enable the first parameter to block automatic restarts after update installations, and set the second to a high enough period to receive the reboot prompt less often.

Wupload sucks for free downloaders. It’s speeds are some of the lowest around. NEVER use Wupload!

Rapidshare is the best, but if you’re uploading copyrighted content, make sure you rename the file or they are likely to find it and delete it at some point.

Fileserve is another good site for free downloaders; it’s speeds are usually good.

Megaupload is the best hosting on the planet. They barely have problem as what most of their competitor does, their website up time is 100% unlike site like Filesonic. They fail and ban suspicious IP and this affect to user like me who share the same connection on my university hostel line.

And yeah, I have all my stuff backed up on Megaupload I will be dead if this is a permanent closure. But lets wait and see.

Backing up all your stuff on a Hosting site isn’t the smartest thing to do, as you now understand, although safer than on the Cloud!
A Portable H/D would be better and in the case of movies and music, a Large Portable H/D.

I kinda doubt if Megaupload will be permanently shut down, as what the authorities did was totally illegal!

There’s something called due process and the presumption of innocent, until found guilty, IN A COURT OF LAW!!!
That never happened!!

The authorities were trying to score brownie points with Congress in Washington in preparation for SOPA/PIPA and that will back fire and blow up in their faces!!

Now, Anonymous is retaliating in a big way, telling the Government that they don’t own the Internet, they don’t know it. don’t understand it, that it belongs to the people and to keep their noses out of it or suffer the consequences!!

Regardless, the authorities temporarily brought down one site, while there are many, many more still alive and kicking!!

To clarify, the apprehensions were properly executed. More specifically, warrants were issued based upon evidence presented before a judge on January 5, 2012, and proper procedures had to have been followed in order to obtain assistance from authorities in other countries. The arrests processes took a couple of weeks to coordinate – actually, they’re still ongoing – and were the culmination of a few years of investigation…

The authorities did what they are charged to do on our behalf. Politics and public opinion and timing be damned! There are no congressional brownie points to be had; if anything, however, with regard to SOPA & PIPA and the organizations & lobbyists behind them, this very public police action could very well turn into a death blow for such legislation – and rightfully so!

For now, attorneys will be taking over on all sides; then, judges and juries will be empaneled. For anyone criminally prosecuted under US jurisdiction, innocence or illegality is ascertained only via due process – which is just as Midnight extolled. All involved WILL get their days in court, as the saying basically goes…

Actually, while the apprehensions might have been properly executed, shutting down Megaupload, PRIOR to evidence/proof of any wrong doing being presented to a judge and a guilty conviction being announced, was Illegal, no matter how you look at it.

The owners/operators of the Pirate Bay were first charged, had their day in court, were found guilty, yet their web site is still operational!

The owners of Megaupload were not (yet) given their day in court, Not found Guilty of any wrong doing, therefore, shutting down the web site was as stated… Illegal!!

The lawyers will have a filed day with this one, for sure!!

Keep in mind that there were also Legal content posted on Megaupload, so that just might sway a guilty conviction.

Time will tell!!

Drag2Up Lets You Upload Files Via Drag And Drop In Chrome

If you upload files, images or text documents for instance, regularly from your computer to Internet sites, you’d probably realized that the process is everything but straightforward. This is especially true if you want to post a file on a site that does not offer uploading capabilities, a comment on a web blog for instance. What you would have to do then is the following:

Find an appropriate host for the file. This can be self hosted web space or a file hosting service.Open the file browser, locate the file on your computer and select to upload itGrab the link to the file and paste it into the comment form at the exact location that you want it to appear.

This process becomes a thing of the past with Drag2Up for the Google Chrome browser. You specify an image, text and binary hosting services from the available selection. Once you have done that, you can use any web form on the Internet to upload files to those services. Even better, the extension pastes the link to the uploaded files directly in that web form.

This is for instance ideal for users who like to post images on Twitter or other sites. Open the extension settings with a click on the Wrench Icon > Tools > Extensions, and the selection of Options next to the Drag2Up listing in the extensions manager.

Just drag and drop the file hosts that you want to use to the appropriate sections on the right. Here is the current list of supported hosts:

Images: Imgur, Imm.io, ImageShack, Snelhest, Flickr, Picasa, TwitrPix, Twitpic, Twitgoo, Img.ly, PosterousText: Gist.Github, Pastebin.com, MysticpasteBinary: Checmial Servers, DAFK Up, Minus, Hotfile, Dropbox, CloudApp, Box and Droplr

The selected hosts are then used as the default storage services when files are uploaded via the drag and drop operations. All you need to do from that moment on is to drag and drop files that you want to upload to forms on the selected web page. Let me give you an example on how this works on Twitter.

Visit the Twitter web page, and drag a file from your computer to the What’s Happening form there. You will notice that drop files here is displayed on every form on the page automatically.

The file is submitted to the selected file host, and the resulting link to the file posted directly in the Twitter form. This saves you quite a few steps.

You may want to disable the “enable marketing” option in the extension settings to avoid advertisement.
