According to tradition, the father of the groom has to deliver a short wedding speech during the reception that follows the wedding ceremony. So if you are the father of the groom, you have to remember that the speech for father of the groom should be sincere, heart-warming, and personal. The beginning of your speech should be more along the lines of thanking the people who are present and who shared that wonderful day with the newly wed couple. Say something like "Good evening, guests! As I'm not as young, handsome, and well-known as the groom here, I believe I ought to introduce myself to you first. I am the proud father of the groom, ladies and gentlemen, and today I am the proudest I can ever be. Anyway, I stand here today to give the traditional father of the groom wedding speech, and so, on behalf of the newly weds, I would like to welcome you all in this celebration."

"Moreover, I would like to thank you for taking the time to join us here as we witness my son and daughter-in-law's wedding. Some of you have even travelled a long time just to be here, and so note that your efforts and generosity have been appreciated. I know that when this couple looks back to this day many years from now, they will remember you and smile knowing that you have been a part of this joyous day."

After thanking your guests, you may share brief anecdotes about your son as he was growing up. This would be a good example: "As a little boy, my son has always been thoughtful and caring. I recall him running towards me every time I got home from work to give me a quick hug and to offer me my slippers. He was a sweet little kid and he knew how it is to love. I wouldn't be surprised if he gave up everything for his wife and for his future family. That's just how he is."

"With that being said, I propose a toast to the bride and groom. May your relationship grow stronger and your love be everlasting."
