The Art of Striptease
The Art of Striptease has, in the past been linked to, and overshadowed by, a string of negative and often vulgar connotations. However in this modern day we are seeing a re-emergence of this age-old art form, with a new breed of performers bringing an element of sophistication and allure to this erotic style of visual entertainment. Men, women and couples alike are embracing this trend which holds up the beauty of the naked female form and the art of striptease as something to be celebrated instead of something to be shunned.
Perhaps the most famous and publicly recorded early account of striptease is the story of Salome and the dance of the seven veils, with this calculated and captivating dance, the famous biblical stripper seduced her powerful step father, Herod on his birthday. It was at the culmination of her erotic, sensual performance that she called for, and was given the head of John the Baptist on a plate.
In more modern history it was Bettie Page who captured the imagination of the world, quickly becoming the world's most famous stripper and pin-up girl, a title she still holds to date. Although her body of work was largely photographic, she would strip to nude at her photo shoots. It was her playful yet provocative kitsch style that catapulted Bettie and her art form to the forefront of socially excepted mainstream media. In 1953 she appeared in the first burlesque strip film made in colour, Strip-o-rama featuring a now famous bubble-bath scene.
In most recent memory it is Dita Von Teese who has taken to the stage as a femme-fatale bringing this classic art form back into the spotlight. Being featured in playboy some 30 times before making it onto the front cover in 2002. Dita became most famous for her iconic stage show performance in which her striptease is carried out rolling around in a bubble filled champagne glass. Although she cannot be solely credited with the resurgence of this age-old art form, her presence in the popular eye of the celebrity media has certainly done nothing but fuel the growing fascination with striptease as the ultimate expression of feminine sensuality.
Meanwhile today, here in Australia there are a number of professional striptease entertainers taking their shows, and their success, to new heights. With the classic line between strippers and burlesque dancers becoming a little lighter in the sand there is one performer in particular taking Australia, and the world, by storm ~ Cassandra Jane. Starting her career some ten years ago as a table-top dancer Cassandra Jane has taken the word "art-form" and made it her own. Through her glamorous vision for themed sets and routines, and her intricate attention to costumes and stage-show performance she has eclipsed both genres to hold the titles for both Miss Nude Australia and Miss Burlesque World in 2012. Not one to sit on her haunches she has transcended the stage and taken her individual sense of style and unique flair to her own custom house Show Girl Couture, of which she is both owner, and head designer of elaborate costumes all paying homage to the essence of the classic "showgirl". From exotic feather fans, headpieces and accessories to breath-takingly beautiful corsets, each of her masterpieces are truly something special to be seen to be believed.
Another home-grown star of the stage here in Australia is Miss Montana May. From working behind the bar at a prominent strip-club in Melbourne, Miss Montana made the decision to take the plunge, setting herself amongst the stage lights. In her first year of competition she took the crown of Miss Nude Melbourne 1996, going on to then win the title of Miss Nude Victoria 1997. Since then she has been crowned Miss Empress of Erotica 2000, Miss Nude Tasmania 2011, and continued on to become Miss Nude Australia 2011. With her smouldering brunette beauty Miss Montana has also become a darling of the photographic side of the art form appearing on numerous People and Picture magazine covers, her stunning portfolio has also landed her the title of 3 times Penthouse Pet, gracing the pages of the prestigious Penthouse Calendar in 2010. With her well-earned reputation as a consummate performer, Miss Montana is one of the most requested and in-demand performers in both her hometown of Melbourne, and Australia-wide.
Arianna Starr, of Sydney, is an entertainer who pushes the boundaries with a definite difference. Not content to be limited simply to the stage, her act also extends to the air above with aerial hoop and silks work that is truly an amazing sight to behold. With a vast variety of stage and aerial performances in her repertoire Arianna is an established entertainer in Australia, and World-Wide. Her appearances have included Erotica New Zealand, Sexpo Australia and South-Africa, Erotica United Kingdom, PlayBoy Mansion Indonesia and Miss Nude World USA.
Perhaps the newest comer to share the spotlight in Australia is Miss Serena Bailey. With a so-far short, yet illustrious career, her unique and exotic natural beauty has seen her capture the imagination of fans across a variety of platforms. Serena started glamour modelling in early 2010 and since then has been on the cover of Picture magazine, as well as featured in publications such as People magazine, ZOO weekly, Live to Ride, and most recently appeared in the January 2012 edition of Penthouse Magazine as the featured cover girl and centrefold.
